Community and contemplation
STORY
A contemplative garden was created for a new housing complex in the Stockholm archipelago, inspired by painting number seven from Hilma af Klint’s Swan series paintings. It connects two different dwellings through this shared space, offering the opportunity to enjoy it separately or communally, being alone together.
Taking a cue by its surroundings in the archipelago, it consists of mostly native planting and trees, and includes water features as well as a fire pit in to gather around in the evenings. Curved limestone walls create private spaces and offer structure. Granite benches makes sure there’s always somewhere to sit down and take in the gentle sounds of water and planting. .
